Ceramics: At our facility we decorate the hand-molded ceramic bisque tile. Bisque tile is an already kiln fired, dry ceramic tile substrate ready for painting, decoration and glaze. That means that we hand-paint on a dry bisque tile and then glaze over and kiln fire at temperatures exceeding 1800 degrees farenheight. This process is an old Italian technique known as “majolica” underglaze and is extremely durable since the artwork is underneath the glass or glaze.
We develop the colored background and field tile colors as well as the moldings and trim. Field tile is the plain colored tile that surrounds the painted tiles or decorative pieces. The moldings and trim are the two and three dimensional profiles that accent the space and give more of a dimensional feel rather than a flat look (ex. frame around a mural or chair-rail that encompasses a room).
Because of the large volume of ceramic fields and trim that accompany the decorative pieces we have our associate company in Los Angeles produce them in very large kilns where the bisque tile is made. You can find them on the web at
www.wizardenterprise.com and you will find their own work, colors, fields, decorative and trim work to be tastefully exquisite. Wizard Enterprise produces their own bisque from raw materials that are within their control therefore minimizing the problem of clay contamination, known to all hand-molded ceramic tile manufacturers. We in turn do what we do best, which is the decorating and hand-painting of the tile.
We use several glaze techniques; gloss, gloss crackle, matte and matte crackle. We offer the ceramic fields in all sizes starting at 2” x 2” , 3” x 3” , 4” x 4” , 2” x 4”, 3” x 6” , 6” x 6” and a color pallet that ranges from the extreme “dark” masculine look to the "white-white" very feminine look. The decorative pieces fit into their own categories of masculine or feminine all on their own based on the design and the color application we call “antiquing”. We make corners (upangles, downangles, outangles, inangles) for all of our borders and trim in tile and stone upon request.
With the help of much larger manufacturers, Waverly Tile is able to offer all of the ceramic and stone field and trim pieces to complete an installation from wall to wall or from the ground up. Our seasoned representative showrooms are capable of mixing and matching our ceramic products with our stone products and vice versa.
Stone: On the other hand, stone is cut out of quarries from all over the world and may not stay consistent over the years. As the machinery cuts further into the mountains the color and texture of the stone will change, and is the reason why certain stone products are either discontinued or renamed as something else due to this change.
With our decorative stone products, the colors and consistency will remain constant since we stain and antique the stone to our liking and can adjust our antiquing to changes in the stone. We have chosen several stones that have been consistent in color and texture over the last decade and those are Jerusalem from Palestine, Botticino from Italy and Travertine from Turkey. We work on these stones because of their beauty, color and consistency, however are not limited to them.
We not only provide the decorative stone antiqued borders, murals, decos and floor 2” x 2”dots, but also the fields and simple trim in sizes ranging from .5” x 1.5” baby brick mosaics, 2” x 2” , 3” x 3”, 2” x 4” , 4” x 4” , 6” x 6” , 3” x 6” , 4” x 8” , 8” x 8” , 12” x 12” up to 24” x 24” floor stone and including 3/4” slab material, in honed (non polished) and polished.
When we decorate stone we have two methods we use. The first and most expensive method is hand-carved, literally by hand with a needle- nose sandblaster, carving each miniature line of artwork by hand. We offer the hand-carved stone products in one color antiquing known as monochromatic ( mono = one; chromatic = color), and polychrome (poly= many), which is full color or many colors hand-painted over the hand-carvings, and hence the reason for the higher cost.

The second method is etched, which means we have eliminated the high labor cost of being “hand done” by using a mechanical process. The look is just as beautiful and elegant as the hand-carved without the high cost.
Our pricing on these products are one of the lowest in the industry, and possibly even lower priced than our foreign competition coming from China, Italy, Argentina and Mexico for volume orders. We encourage volume orders from other stone distributors and large discounts start at 1000 pieces. We urge you to price and compare for yourself our decorative stone products.
Waverly Tile can also reverse the image of any design in our etched products and hand-paint in the recessed areas “known as polychrome”, for a remarkably different and elegant look.
We make exclusive designs for other distributors of decorative stone when volume orders are placed. We also make exclusive designs of decorative stone for retail chain outlets.
Unless you have had experience in designing your bathroom walls or your kitchen back-splashes, you will need to sit with one of the seasoned sales staff of one our representative showrooms in order to design your project. If you do have experience in designing various areas of your home for hard surface material, you will need to take the elevations you draw to one of our representative showrooms for purchase. We do not sell to the public.
Our second cd/dvd will show some earlier lines of work which is mostly hand-carved and hand-painted stone and have already been selling and being installed in homes and commercial applications for years. Our cd/dvd's are a valuable resource tool for designers and decorators.
If you have never shopped for decorative hard surface material before for you kitchen or bathrooms, you may not realize the ease of finding what interests you on one of our cd/dvd's and then visiting one of our representative showrooms for purchase. The seasoned sales staff in these showrooms can put it all together for you. If we do not have a representative showroom within a reasonable driving distance from your home, take your cd/dvd to your local tile or stone dealership and have them fax a purchase order on their letterhead for samples of what interests you. If the location of the dealership does not interfere with another's, we will open them up as a dealer that same day. We welcome and encourage new dealerships.
If you have shopped for these products before, you will realize the ease of shopping at home and taking your time to make decisions with a very important part of your house. The kitchen and bathrooms are the most important for resale and is also the place you will end up spending the most money.
Orders of tile or stone that are 120 pounds or less are UPS'able to your door prepaid. Weights greater than 120 pounds must be shipped by common carrier trucking to your driveway either freight collect or third party billing to the showroom you purchased from. You can figure that the average kitchen back-splash requires fifteen square feet of hard surface material, and each square foot (tile or stone) weighs approximately six pounds and therefore UPS'able to your door.
Please allow six to eight weeks from the time you place your order to the time we box and ship to you, and another week to two weeks of transit time. UPS deliveries are all “adult signature required”, and all common carrier deliveries must also have a signature required as proof of delivery.
You therefore will need to shop for the hard surface material for your special project months in advance of when you want it installed. Please choose a tile contractor who has experience in blending and selecting hand-molded, hand-painted and etched decorative material. Your choice in a tile contractor will make your special project go as planned.
Thank you in advance for “any” purchase of our products you place and thank you for visiting our web site. Please return every few months for more cd/dvd's of newly designed work for purchase. Fax: 760 722-3783 |
